Today I'm planting this blog's seed, and hope to see it germinate sometime in December. I'm a school library student, but I hope that by this time next year I will be a working school librarian. With this blog, I plan to reflect upon my experiences working in the field, cultivating young learners so they may grow into well rounded, inquisitive, adults.
Being in school, getting certified, is like preparing the soil. It is hard work and it is essential, but the real payoff is still hovering in the moderately distant future. Next semester, when I do my internships, it will be like planning the garden -- doing research, finding out where things will thrive, and what can be done to decrease the possibilities of blight. I expect to learn tricks, like planting watercress off to the side of the garden so the pests attack it instead of your vegetables, or how to help a student with dyslexia compensate for their challenge and contribute fully to the class. The true joy will be when the seeds arrive, when I land a position in a school.
For now, though, frost is in the news, and homework is on my mind. I don't expect to write any new posts until December, at the earliest, but you can be sure that I'm working hard, turning the soil and adding compost.
